Pre-Application (Investigation) stage

Visit the Gymnasium A+ website and review the Gymnasium Learner Profile before the application stage starts.
Gather as much information as possible about the International Baccalaureate Program and the International Baccalaureate Organization. Visit the IBO website (ibo.org) as well as the International Baccalaureate Page on Gymnasium A+ School website (in progress) Brochure LINK and leaflet LINK
Participate in Gymnasium A+ Tour Opportunities (in person).
Participate in an International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme informational session held in Gymnasium A+ (on request)

1st wave February - April

Stage I

1-28 February

acceptance and submission of an application form, a motivational essay, and completion of a career-related survey for admission purposes to the IB 2021/2022 Programme;

Stage II

1-14 March

the Admission Board reads submitted documents, evaluates essays, and partially completes the information*;

Stage III

15-26 March

taking entrance exams. Academic English: written part (Paper 1, Paper 2); Math – testing part + solving tasks; the second foreign language – for those who want to choose studying the second foreign language as a variable component;

Stage IV

27-31 March

oral interview in English;

1-9 April

making the final decision on enrollment into the Programme, sending the results by e-mail**.

** Students must confirm their seat in the IB Programme by paying the enrollment fee by April 20, 2021. Students who do not communicate their intention until the deadline will automatically be rejected in the Programme admission.

All Applicants should fill in the Application Form 1
(during Stage I)

Immediately after the form 1 is filled in, the student will be assigned with an internal ID code. The students ought to use the code in all exam papers/motivational essays etc. instead of their Surname and Name.

All legal guardians/parents should complete the Survey for Parents Form 2 (during Stage I)

Course Selections Form 3

Students who have filled the application form 1, must complete the course selection process till the end of Stage 1.
If the students choose the second foreign language, they will automatically be selected for the additional test. The minimum level of the second foreign language for the Programme IB should be not lower than B1.

Please provide us with two filled in Recommendation Letters,
which is the Google Form 4

Gymnasium A+ admissions committee will make an additional call or email to the teachers who are allowed to fill recommendation letter are the teachers of the following subjects areas:
mathematics, science, native language, foreign language. The second letter can be filled in by the class teacher, principal or the principal deputy.

What should you do?
  1. Send your teacher or guidance counsellor or principal/principal deputy the link to the Confidential Teacher Commentary Form and ask for the form to be completed by the end of the Stage 1.
  2. Send your other school representative the link to the Confidential Teacher Commentary Form and ask for the form to be completed by the end of the Stage 1.

Please note: We typically receive over 200 applications. We are unable to respond to every phone or email inquiriy on whether the School has received all the necessary documents or for an update on admission status. But we have almost two weeks to inspect all applications and send you the form for choosing the test date and date for oral interview

The list of documents to be submitted to the selection committee should be left as follows:

Required documents (Scanned copies):


  • Latest school report card and exam certificates - You will need to upload a copy of your grade 9 transcript (and grade 10 Interim transcript, if available);
  • Basic General Education certificate for Ukrainian citizenship (Compulsory if you have the Ukrainian citizenship only and are planning to obtain the Ukrainian national diploma in 11 grade), additional Diplomas; International certificates as an evidence of achievements etc.
  • Essay a motivational statement for applying to IB at Gymnasium A + (The Essay is a Google form 5, which should be filled in along with the other Google forms;
  • Student's Personal ID Documents (ID card or Birth Certificate Student’s Surname_First Name_Word “ID”, example Litvinova_Olga_ID);
  • 1 Photo (jpeg or pdf format document with the name Student’s Surname_First Name_Word “Photo”, example Litvinova_Olga_Photo).

Notice! To ensure that students are capable of meeting the demands of the programme, 10 grade students should meet the following recommendations:
  • A minimum of an excellent grade for any subject that the student may be considering as a HL course
  • A minimum of a good grade for any subject that the student may be considering as a SL course

Please notice! Uploading of the documents onto the Google drive is forbidden. It makes the process longer and more complicated.

General Expectations (Entrance Criteria)

Applicants need to be able to demonstrate the following:


  • be fully committed to their IB studies
  • utilise non-contact time productively
  • become independent learners
  • take responsibility for their own learning
  • embrace all opportunities presented to them
  • undertake community service, especially within the school
  • undertake positions of responsibility and leadership
  • act as positive role models for the rest of the school
  • deliver at least one assembly to the year group during the year
  • be approachable and available to support and assist younger students
  • high level of attendance during the academic year

All information from the Admission Committee is to be sent to the parents' email address with the student being in a copy.

After analyzing the information submitted in the application forms, the commission forms a list of students recommended for the testing stage (in English, mathematics and the second foreign language (if the student chooses to study such in a variable component of the curriculum)).

During the Stage 2 of each admission wave the Google form 6 for choosing the test and the oral interview dates. The link will be sent to the applicants, who will have overcome Stage 2.

When the exams are scheduled, the exams fee should be paid by the applicant. The bills will be sent you by the Sales department into registrant email (both legal guardian email and applicant email)


Passing the Exams

English language testing, which consists of written and oral parts.


The written part
- Paper 1. Listening + reading. Duration - 1 hour 30 min. Test level B2/C1* (* without a break).
- Paper 2. Written Essay. Duration - 1 hour* (* without a break).

Oral part - Interview in English with a teacher, psychologist and DP coordinator lasting 10-15 minutes.

Mathematics exam block (only for non-Pre-DP students) consists of a test part and problem solving. Duration - 210 min** (** with a break).

Testing in the second foreign language (if needed) consists of an oral part - an interview, and a written - lexical and grammar test and writing task 300-350 words. Duration of the written part - 1 hour 40 minutes * (* with a break).
Oral part - interview with the teacher lasting 5-7 minutes.

Assessment

Teachers assess all the parts according to pre-developed assessment criteria. Based on the results of passing all the blocks, a ranking student's achievements who took part in the admission campaign 2021 will be compiled. Information on the results will be sent to the e-mail addresses provided during online student registration.
The maximum number of points for each type of work is given in the table "Summative assessment".

Mathematics (for students of Pre-DP - average grade based on the last attestation period in mathematics) - 12
Motivation Essays (English) only for non-Pre-DP students - 12
English Language (Paper 1. Listening + reading, 1,5 hour, Test level B2/C1) - 12
English Language (Paper 2. Essay 1 hour) - 12
English – Oral Interview (15 min.) - 12

Grade Average (weight 75%)

Pre-DP students instead of motivation essay will be assessed as max 12 point from CAS (max 4 points) + TOK (max 4 points) + EE (max 4 points)

Based on the results of the previous stages, a decision on enrollment is taken. After the Stage 5 of each wave, the results are sent by e-mail in the form of letters.

Recommended applicants will be asked to complete a Google Form to select courses for the freshman year. Recommended applicants are to participate in scheduling presentation in early June or early July to ensure proper course selection.

Amendments:
admissions procedure for Gymnasium A+ Pre-DP students

The admission campaign consists of the similar 5 stages as for non-pre-DP students. The difference is that Pre-DP students don’t pass the Mathematics exams and don’t fill in the Motivation Essay (Form 5). Pre-DP students instead of motivation essay will be assessed from CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service), TOK (Theory of Knowledge) and EE (Extended Essay).

To ensure that students are capable of meeting the demands of the programme, 10 grade students should meet the following recommendations:

  • A minimum of an excellent grade for any subject that the student may be considering as a HL course
  • A minimum of a good grade for any subject that the student may be considering as a SL course
  • A meeting with the DP Coordinator, University counsellor, ATL Counsellor and parents to discuss the predicted career path, choosing subjects and risks during studying IBDP
